A complete chess program. Nothing calls home.
Chess Anywhere plays a full game of chess entirely on your phone. No internet connection, no account, no server — on a plane, in a basement, behind a firewall, forever.
This board runs live in your browser. Zero network requests. Legal moves only.

Bluetooth
Two phones near each other find one another automatically. Both run as Bluetooth central and peripheral at once — no pairing screen, no code, no login. Tap the peer that appears, tap Challenge, play.
Pass & Play
One phone, two players. When it's the other person's move, the board turns to face them.
The Computer
Pick a rung and climb.
Every rule. No shortcuts.
Castling with every condition checked. En passant. Promotion. Check, checkmate, and stalemate. Every draw the rules allow: insufficient material, the fifty-move rule, threefold repetition, and draw by agreement.
| Rule | Status |
|---|---|
| Castling — king & rook unmoved, path clear, king not through check | ✓ checked |
| En passant | ✓ checked |
| Promotion — queen, rook, bishop, knight | ✓ checked |
| Check, checkmate, stalemate | ✓ checked |
| Draw — insufficient material | ✓ checked |
| Draw — fifty-move rule | ✓ checked |
| Draw — threefold repetition | ✓ checked |
| Draw — by agreement | ✓ checked |
What's perft?
Short for “performance test.” Count every legal position reachable in N moves from the start, and check the count against known-correct numbers. One wrong figure means a rule is broken somewhere in the tree — it's the standard way to prove a move generator is right.

Every time control.
One minute to fifteen minutes with a ten-second increment. Or no clock at all. Tap a preset, then tap a clock face below to run it.
The FIDE detail
A flag fall is normally a loss. But if the player whose flag didn't fall has no way to force checkmate — a lone king, or a king and one minor piece — FIDE rules it a draw instead. Most clock implementations skip this. Chess Anywhere checks it every time.
Move list & PGN export
Every game exported in standard PGN, ready to paste anywhere.
Light & dark mode
Bone and graphite, like the board itself.
Sound & haptics, synthesized
Generated at runtime. No audio files ship in the app.
Games saved on device
Nothing leaves your phone. Nothing needs to.
What it doesn't do
No online play. Bluetooth range only — the other person has to be physically near you.
No accounts. No profiles. No ratings. No ELO. No stats.
No puzzles, lessons, opening book, or post-game analysis. It won't tell you your blunders.
No cloud sync. A new phone starts empty.
No data collection. Not minimized. Not anonymized. None.
No ads. No subscription. No in-app purchases — in the current build.
